Super healthy
SuperTarget was named one of America’s healthiest grocery stores by Health magazine. The magazine assembled a panel of nutrition experts to examine 35 of the nation’s largest food retailers whose products were reviewed based on freshness of produce, taste of prepared food, healthfulness of packaged goods and the availability of supplemental nutritional information.
Topping the list was Whole Foods, followed by Safeway, Harris Teeter, Trader Joe’s and Hannaford Bros. Rounding out the list were Albertson’s, Food Lion, Publix, Pathmark and SuperTarget.
Although a panel of nutrition experts were involved in compiling the list, and they relied on some specific criteria, such lists tend to be subjective. Seriously, anyone familiar with the food retailing industry would be surprised to find Pathmark and Food Lion on a list of the top supermarkets. Even the selection of SuperTarget could be considered surprising, since it only operates 239 stores. However, the company has made a commitment to organic produce, and the entire Archer Farms line of 2,000 items contains 0 grams of added trans fats.
