Subway adds workflow platform

5/20/2009

Milton, Conn. IPC, an independent Subway franchise-owned and operated purchasing cooperative, recently added an information technology infrastructure library to manage workflow of in-house operations and ordering processes.

IPC procures the chain’s food, packaging, equipment and other services on behalf of Subway franchisees. It also handles supply chain contracts to bring more cost efficiencies to Subway operators. Over the years, many of these processes were supported by in-house applications.

As Subway grew its franchise business and increased the number and complexity of in-house solutions, however, the chain decided to install an ITIL, or an electronic set of concepts and standards that manages IT operations. The chain’s main criterion was a solution that included customizable workflow applications.

IPC chose to install IT Symphony from Change Dynamics, Cedar Knolls, N.J., to manage its ITIL workflow. The company also added the vendor’s Service Desk solution, which allows IPC’s IT users to report or log system anomalies into one unified area, rather than verbally report issues to IT personnel.

Pleased with the early performance of the technology, the quick-service chain is already planning to install Change Dynamics’ VIZ solution, a business-decision tool that delivers insight to data stored in the company’s configuration management database.
