Study – ‘Super Saturday’ sees high Web traffic
New York – The weekend of Dec. 20-21, which included “Super Saturday” (the last Saturday before Christmas) saw the highest daily back-to-back Internet traffic from online consumer retail shopping activity since tracking began before the Thanksgiving weekend. According to the Verizon Retail Index, average daily traffic was 119 on Saturday and 122 on Sunday.
Year-over-year, online shopping was still lower, however. Saturday’s results were down one point and Sunday’s results were down two points compared to the comparable time period in 2013.
“Last-minute shopping combined with continued promotions and extended guaranteed shipping deadlines created a bonanza for retailers and consumers over the weekend,” said Michele Dupre, VP, retail & hospitality, Verizon Enterprise Solutions. “The old rules no longer seem to apply as retailers spread out the sales and many kicked off the holiday season before Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) which has traditionally represented the start.”
