Study: Recall won't hinder holiday toy shopping
DENVER The recent recall of many popular toys will not stop consumers from buying toys this holiday season, a recent survey by online toy retailer eToys.com found.
According to the survey, 37% of consumers said that they plan to spend the same amount or more on toys this holiday season compared to previous years. And, although many of the year's recalled toys were made in China, this was not enough to deter shoppers from purchasing toys from that country, with only 32% of those surveyed saying they will not by toys made in China. An even smaller percentage (25%) of survey participants said they will only buy toys made in America, indicating that country of origin is not a major factor for consumers when purchasing toys.
While consumers may be more trustworthy than expected when it comes to choosing toys made outside of the United States, they still look for indicators of toy safety. For those surveyed, this meant familiar brand names. The survey found that 53% of respondents believe toys from major toy manufacturers are generally safer than toys from smaller ones. In addition, 56% of those surveyed said they will only buy toys made by familiar companies this holiday season.
