Study: E-reader use continues to grow
NEW YORK — One-in-six Americans (15%) uses an e-reader device, a new study from Harris Interactive found. This is up from less than 1-in-10 (8%) last year.
The Harris study, which polled2,183 adults online between July 11 and 18, found that e-reader owners tend to read more than those who don't own a device.Overall, 16% of Americans read between 11 and 20 books a year with 1-in-5 reading 21 or more books in a year (20%). But, among those who have an e-reader, one-third read 11 to 20 books a year (32%) and over one-quarter read 21 or more books in an average year (27%), the study found.
E-reader users are alsomore likely to buy books, according to the survey. One-third of Americans (32%) say they have not purchased any books in the past year compared to only 6% of e-reader users who say the same. According to the survey, 17% of e-reader users purchased between 11 and 20 and 17% purchased 21 or more books in the past year.
E-readers may contribute to more reading, as the study found more than 36% of e-reader users say they are reading more compared to just 16% of non-users.
