Starbucks Names New CEO

Seattle, Starbucks Corp. has named Jim Donald as president and CEO, following Thursday’s retirement of Orin Smith. Smith had announced his decision to retire last October. Donald, who joined the company in 2002 as president, North America, will also join the board of directors. He most recently served as chairman, president and CEO of Carteret, N.J.-based Pathmark, and prior to that, he was a key executive in Wal-Mart’s development of the supercenter format. He also served in managerial positions at Safeway and Albertson’s.
