Starbucks has unveiled its new “express” store format, just across from the New York Stock Exchange in downtown Manhattan. The 538-sq.-ft. space is one of the most streamlined in the company’s diverse portfolio.

The store is designed to provide a fast, convenient experience. Upon entry, customers are greeted by a Starbucks employee who takes orders with a handheld device. A digital menu board displayed on four low-glare monitors is positioned to the right of the entry. A set of menu options, tailored for New York customers, rotates on the screens. The display also serves as a form of art at night with glowing images of coffee farms shining through the front window.

Artwork made from hot-rolled steel with a black patina finish and a laser-etched coffee tree design hangs where the menu in a traditional Starbucks would be located.

Starbucks plans to open four more express format stores in New York in 2015.
