Staples tries new holiday promotional strategy

11/5/2015

Price match guarantees and claims of fantastic deals have become passé, so Staples is employing a new promotional tactic this holiday season that speaks directly to its core customer.

Staples is making the same claims as virtually every other retailer about its great deals, convenient shopping and omnichannel capabilities. However, to take those claims a step further in a way that speaks to its core customers, Staples has created a limited duration promotion it’s calling the “Business Savings Event.”

Beginning Nov. 8 and running through Nov. 21, Staples claims it will offer “special” savings in stores and online on the latest technology and essential products for businesses. The company also created a dedicated area of it site (Staples.com/dailydeals) where products are featured with a countdown clock to show the duration of time remaining to purchase items at the discounted price.

“At Staples, customers will find exceptional deals throughout the holiday season, beginning with two weeks of savings during our Business Savings Event and continuing through Black Friday and Cyber Monday,” said Peter Scala, Staples executive VP of merchandising. “We’re offering more for less every day with great deals on technology and office essentials for our small business customers, price match guarantee, and free shipping from Staples.com for our Staples Rewards members.”

Among the items featured during the Business Savings event are a five ream case of Hammermill Copy Plus Paper for $14.99, a buy two get the third 50% off on ink and toner, a Staples Lewston chair for $59.99 and 20% off all regular price K-Cup Pods.

Items Staples plans to feature Thanksgiving (its store are closed Thanksgiving Day, but open at 6 a.m. Friday) include an Amazon Fire 7” tablet bundle for $54.99, a Toshiba i3 notebook with Windows 10 for $299 and a Dell i3147-10000sLV laptop with Windows 10 for $299.
