Staples fills new gmm slot with Sears exec

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. Staples this morning named Mark Mettler as senior vp/gmm of consumer technology and seasonal supplies. Mettler is a veteran merchant who spent the past 15 years at Sears, Roebuck and Company, where he last held the position of senior vp/gmm, according to Staples. He will report to Staples evp of merchandising, Jevin Eagle.

“In this new role on our merchandising team, he will drive innovative and differentiated product assortments in our growing consumer technology and seasonal office supply categories,” Eagle said.

Mettler began his merchandising career in the department store industry. He began as a buyer at the Jordan Marsh division of the former Federate Department Stores company and later joined the May Department Store Company where he served as a divisional sales manager at Filene’s before joining Sears in 1993.
