Staples elects TJX chief to board

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. Staples has elected Carol Meyrowitz, president and ceo of TJX to its board of directors, the company reported today.

"Carol brings strong executive skills as well as a wealth of retail industry knowledge. Her merchandising expertise and product sourcing background make her a great addition to our strong board of directors," said Ron Sargent, Staples chairman and ceo.

Meyrowitz has been president of TJX since 2005, ceo since January 2007 and a director since 2006. Previously, she was president of The Marmaxx Group, the largest division of TJX, from 2001 to 2005. She served as senior evp of TJX from 2004 to 2005 and evp from 2001 to 2004. Prior, she served as evp of merchandising for Marmaxx.
