Staples bolsters global IT organization with new hire

Staples has named Tom Conophy as EVP, chief information officer, overseeing all aspects of Staples’ global IT organization. He will report directly to Ron Sargent, Staples’ chairman and CEO, and will serve on the Staples executive committee.



“Tom is a creative and innovative leader, and his skills complement the talents of our IT leadership team as we build the systems and processes to support our strategic reinvention,” said Sargent. “His broad background, with an emphasis on the customer experience, will prove particularly valuable as we expand our assortment beyond office supplies, grow our online capabilities, and focus on product-related services.”



Most recently, Conophy served as EVP and chief information officer for InterContinental Hotels Group, where he was responsible for all technology solutions across their global organization. He previously played a similar role for Starwood Hotels & Resorts International. Conophy was also the chief architect for Sabre and held leadership positions at United Airlines.
