Sony plans big release for PS3

7/16/2007

SANTA MONICA, Calif. Sony said it plans to release more than 200 games for its PlayStation 3 game console in 2008 to help drive sales. Sony made the announcement at the E3 Business & Media Summit on July 12, two days after it cut the price of the PS3 by $100 to $499.

Sony Computer Entertainment president Jack Tretton said sales of the PS3 doubled at its top 5 retailers this week since the price drop and said the company is on track to meet its goal of shipping 11 million PS3 consoles worldwide by the end of 2007.

Sony’s price drop on the PS3 was the biggest piece of news to come out of the first-ever E3 Business & Media Summit, a smaller version of the video game convention that attracted about 5,000 media and industry professionals to Santa Monica during a three-day run July 11-13.
