Solar Panel at Whole Foods Provides 15% of Store’s Energy

Princeton, N.J., Whole Foods Market officially unveiled a 126.7-kilowatt solar panel array at its newest store in Princeton, N.J. The panel, made by BP Solar, generates enough solar energy daily to power approximately 30 typical homes. The system produces roughly 15% of the store’s energy needs and will reduce carbon-dioxide emissions by 1,950 tons over the life of the system. The solar array covers 12,500 sq. ft. of the store’s roof.

Whole Foods is saving more than $515,000 on the cost of the system because of New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program rebate. The rebate offers incentives for individuals and businesses to purchase and install solar power systems. Melissa McDermott, store marketing specialist, said, “Whole Foods Market is excited that we are able to generate significant economic and environmental benefits for the store and our community.”
