Chicago Due in part to an early Easter on April 4, total U.S. traffic in stores and enclosed malls dropped in April 2010 compared with the year-ago period, according to ShopperTrak Corp.’s Retail Traffic Index (SRTI). Week over week results showed that the index dropped dramatically in the week after Easter, while the remaining weeks were flat or had small gains or losses.

Each month, the SRTI measures traffic across five separate retail segments: total U.S. traffic (combines enclosed malls and retail stores); total retail stores; enclosed malls; apparel and accessories stores; and wireless and consumer electronics stores. Rich with national and regional data, and with traffic measured on a weekly basis, the SRTI reports provide valuable insights into trends and reveals differences in shopper traffic between regions and retail segments.
