Shopko takes different approach with Thanksgiving

11/12/2014

Regional discounter Shopko is employing an unconventional strategy concerning Thanksgiving store hours.

The company said on Thanksgiving day its stores will open at 7 a.m., but then close at 1 p.m. and then reopen at 6 p.m. The early Thanksgiving Day opening is for shoppers who want to beat the rush or pick up last minute items for their Thanksgiving feast. When Shopko’s stores reopen at 6 p.m., along with those of many other retailers, they will remain open all the way through until 11 p.m. on Black Friday. The company said it will feature more than 850 items with doorbuster pricing from 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving until noon on Black Friday, while supplies last.

The strategy will be slightly different at the company’s smaller Shopko Hometown stores. Those locations will be open on Thanksgiving Day from 7 a.m. to 3 pm., and then reopen at 5 a.m. on Black Friday. Stores will remain open until 9 p.m. with deals on 500 products available until noon on or while supplies last.

Starting on Wednesday, Nov. 26, early access to a special allocation of Black Friday door busters will be available on-line at Shopko.com and will run through Black Friday or until quantities run out. A first for the company this year is free shipping of online orders to local stores.
