The 175,000-plus retailers who sell through the cloud-based multichannel Shopify platform will soon have a new sales channel more easily available.
Shopify has partnered with Facebook to enable Shopify merchants to showcase and sell their products in the new Shop section on Facebook pages.
Shopify retailers will be able to create Shop sections in the coming weeks, making it easier for visitors to their Facebook page to discover what they have to offer. Retailers can then choose to direct shoppers to their online store or to checkout directly on the Facebook site or mobile app.
This partnership builds on Shopify’s ongoing beta test of the Facebook “buy” button with select U.S. retailers. Facebook began piloting the buy button, which lets desktop or mobile consumers click the “buy” call-to-action button on ads and page posts to purchase a product directly from a business, without leaving Facebook, in July 2014.
“For the last year, we have been working closely with Facebook on the ‘Buy’ call-to-action button and now the Shop section on pages,” said Satish Kanwar, director of product, Shopify. “Today’s announcement is a big step towards helping our merchants showcase and sell their products to the more than one billion people who visit pages each month."
