Roots’ new experiential format brings the iconic Canadian sportswear brand’s heritage to life. Done in collaboration with CallisonRTKL and located at Toronto’s Yorkdale Shopping Centre, the design of the 5,100-sq.-ft. space alludes to an open, modern cabin that showcases Roots’ history and culture. The store features different experiences, including a leather customization workshop where shoppers can witness the brand’s signature handcrafted process and, using a digital design interface, customize their own products.


Timberland opened a new experiential concept — Timberland Tree Lab — with an interior that transforms its theme and merchandise every six weeks. Located at King of Prussia Mall, King of Prussia, Pa., the store emphasizes storytelling and has curated product collections. A holiday-themed installation opens in early November.


The world’s largest restaurant chain is rolling out a makeover to improve its customer experience and make it more digitally savvy. Subway’s “fresh forward” redesign, by FRCH Design Worldwide, combines a bright color palette, sleeker furniture, better lighting and bolder graphics with self-ordering kiosks, digital menu boards and charging ports. The new design will be featured in all new locations and remodels.
