Trending Stores: The Frye Company’s location in Denver took top honors as Store of the Year in the 2017 Shop! store design competition. With a design that celebrates the artisan heritage of Frye, one of the country’s oldest footwear companies, the 2,460-sq.-ft. store has a warm and comfortable vibe, with a modern ski-lodge aesthetic. Local references include a massive working fireplace dressed with stone from local quarries, and rugs woven with American Indian motifs. Elder-Jones Contracting served as general contractor; Lochte + Architectural Group provided architectural services. … Ulta Beauty will open 100 stores this year, including an 11,000-sq.-ft. location in Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn., and its first-ever outpost in Manhattan. … Amazon opened a new grocery format that is aimed at the “click and collect” pickup services that many supermarket retailers are offering. AmazonFresh Pickup is a drive-by grocery delivery service that allows Amazon Prime members to order groceries online and pick them up in as little as 15 minutes. The concept, which has two locations in Seattle, is in a beta mode and, for the time being, open only to Amazon employees. …Saks Fifth Avenue opened its first store dedicated entirely to menswear. Located at Brookfield Place in Manhattan, the 16,000-sq.-ft. Saks Downtown Men’s combines a modern design and the latest in technology, including interactive mirrored screens that allow customers to use an intuitive digital interface to select fabrics, linings, buttons, personalized embroidery and more for made-to-measure suits and shirts.


In the Works: British lifestyle brand The White Company will open its first store in the United States this summer, a 3,000-sq.-ft. location in Manhattan. Described as the retailer’s first international flagship, the store will stock a curated selection of lifestyle, homeware and fashion products.
