Seven Charged in Organized Retail Theft
Fort Lauderdale, Fla. A federal grand jury has charged seven people with selling nearly $8 million worth of stolen merchandise from a host of drug stores, including Walgreens, CVS and Rite-Aid.
The charges follow a four-year investigation into organized retail theft by several law-enforcement agencies. Federal prosecutors said Tuesday that the seven people charged either worked for or sold stolen merchandise to South Florida-based Pharmacare. Authorities say the company operated a warehouse in Sunrise, Fla., where store labels and anti-theft devices were removed from stolen items so they could be resold.
