Selfridges honored with Department Store of the Year award

New York City The United Kingdom’s Selfridges won the “Department Store of the Year” award at the 2010 Global Department Summit, held in New York City. The award is based on superlative achievements by a department store chain in branding, product and service innovation, and supported by strong financial performance.

The award ceremony, held Thursday night, marked the culmination of the Summit, which was attended by over 300 prominent executives, including 54 department store CEOs, with 36 countries represented.

Celebrating its centenary anniversary, the four-store Selfridges chain earned record profits in 2009 during a challenging time for many in the department. store industry. Company CEO Paul Kelly discussed recent initiatives at Selfridges, such as a multimillion dollar investment in their online business, a commitment to create the largest shoe department in the world this fall, and refurbishing their Manchester store.
