Sears spreads anti-bullying message during BTS season
HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Sears is touting its Team Up to Stop Bullying program to parents, educators and students during the back-to-school season. The program is open to customers and Shop Your Way members.
Participants can experience the Sears "Jean Scene" activities in four different ways this month.
• Shop Your Way members will be eligible to enter a sweepstakes for a chance to win one of three Kardashian-decorated jeans at ShopYourWay.com/jeans. Each pair of jeans is decorated and autographed by Kim, Kourtney or Khloe Kardashian, and includes the corresponding Kardashian’s handprint as a symbolic pledge to put an end to bullying. Additionally, for every entry into the sweepstakes, Sears will donate $1 to Team Up to Stop Bullying, up to $2,000. The jeans will also be featured in a window installation at the Sears flagship store on State Street in downtown Chicago starting Aug. 5.
• Members and customers can purchase a limited-edition Team Up to Stop Bullying denim sport bag in-store for $5, with $1 of each purchase made between Aug. 11 and Sept. 7 supporting anti-bullying nonprofit organizations. Additionally, Shop Your Way members who purchase the bag will receive a coupon for $5 in points toward their next purchase.
• Sears is marking the back-to-school season with more than 1,000 styles of denim in stores nationwide and online. Upcoming local events will showcase the line while raising awareness of the Team Up to Stop Bullying program.
• Sears and Dockers Approved Schoolwear have teamed up to offer free anti-bullying kits to school administrators and educators, which include tips, banners, book lists and teacher/student/parent handouts to host an in-school assembly.
"Leading up to the first day of school, Sears is amplifying the anti-bullying conversation in their stores and online to let parents know where they can find the resources and solutions to help deal with a bullying issue," said Marie Newman, managing director of Team Up to Stop Bullying. "Sears is also giving Shop Your Way members and customers ways to express their individuality through their personal style — something all kids can celebrate and respect in each other."
Sears describes Team Up to Stop Bullying in August 2012 as the first solutions and service-based anti-bullying coalition to provide immediate solutions that parents and schools can implement today. The coalition consists of 70 expert anti-bullying nonprofits that give parents effective ways to prevent and resolve bullying and provides guidance to educators on how to establish bully reform programs at their school.
