Sears chooses STI for store-renovation logistics
New York City Sears Holding Corp. selected STI, Fort Wayne, Ind., a leader in specialized supply chain solutions, for its nationwide store modernization program for Sears and K Mart locations.
To support the renovations, STI developed a comprehensive logistics solution to ensure all components such as vendors, Sears’s internal buyers, and transportation was coordinated. Sears’ unique logistics needs required a blend of STI’s services such as vendor management, packaging and crating development, web based visibility tools, and transport optimization to ensure the project was on time and using less trucks than originally planned.
“We assembled a project team of operations, product process engineers, and account management to tailor a customized standard operations procedure (SOP) for Sears,” said Jim Cass, director of operations for STI. “For the menswear roll out, we optimized over 200 truckloads of less-than-truckload shipments leveraging STI’s 43 distribution centers to reduce the number of truckloads by 20%, providing efficiency for the vendors and meeting all delivery dates, damage free.”
