Schnuck to open green stores in St. Louis area
St. Louis Schnuck Markets announced that two of its new stores in the St. Louis area will include green-building features.
The stores, in downtown St. Louis and the Des Peres area, will feature energy-efficient lighting and water-efficient plumbing fixtures and an energy-management system to control lighting, air conditioning, heating and refrigeration.
Last fall, the supermarket chain opened a prototype store in Newburgh, Ind., that was almost 50% larger than the one it replaced, but had the same utility costs.
