SC Johnson, United Way of Racine mark anniversary

RACINE, Wis. — SC Johnson is marking its 90th anniversary of donating to the local United Way.



For nearly a century, the family-owned company known for brands such as Glade, Pledge and Scrubbing Bubbles has donated more than $50 million in cumulative contributions to the local nonprofit organization.



"Providing local leadership and support to communities — whether in our hometown of Racine or around the globe — is part of our DNA," said Fisk Johnson, chairman and CEO of SC Johnson. "Our ongoing partnership with the United Way of Racine has resulted in new initiatives that fill gaps in community programs that ultimately have a positive impact both our community and its families in need."



Every year, SC Johnson launches a United Way fundraising campaign. Thanks to a company-wide dollar-for-dollar match promise, this year's total amounted to more than $1.7 million in contributions. The funds are used to support priority community programs as well as projects in education, health and income.



"Two out of every three families in Racine will benefit from United Way programming during their lifetime, due in large part to the generous funds continuously raised by SC Johnson," said David Maurer, United Way of Racine County president. "We are honored to mark 90 years of partnership with the company and are grateful for the work they do throughout the Racine community."



SC Johnson also awards grants to a wide variety of organizations of all sizes. In the last five years, the company awarded more than 1,200 small grants totaling $1.1 million. Throughout its 127-year history, the company has also awarded larger scale donations to organizations such as the Nature Conservancy in Brazil, Gateway Technical College in Wis. and the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research. Since 2000, SC Johnson has contributed nearly $250 million globally through grants and product donations.



United Way of Racine County funds more than 60 programs and special projects, while also initiating and facilitating systems-wide initiatives to create long-lasting change. The nonprofit organization partners with other individuals and organizations throughout Racine County to address the community's most critical issues.
