Save-A-Lot invests in New Orleans
ST. LOUIS Save-A-Lot announced that it is going against the model of shuttering stores during an economic downturn by opening three new stores in New Orleans this week to help spur the city’s revitalization effort.
According to the company, together the three new grocery stores support local construction and development companies, provide much needed fresh produce, meat and other food items and 100 new jobs for local residents.
“The residents of New Orleans need grocery stores – they are the hallmark of recovery,” said Dr. Edward Blakely, executive director of the Office of Recovery & Development Administration in New Orleans. ”We’re thrilled that Save-A-Lot is expanding in our city. We believe these new stores will help anchor the neighborhoods, jump start the revitalization process and serve as models for other businesses who want to invest in the neighborhoods, as well.”
