Sam’s selling GNC branded products

3/3/2011

GNC branded nutritional products are now being offered in 400 Sam’s Clubs in keeping with the club retailer’s efforts to gain market share in the health and wellness area. The GNC brand allows Sam’s to offer a differentiated product assortment and shopping experience from club competitors, as plans call for GNC to rotate pallets of its top-selling private label items throughout the year. The first two items include a two-pound container of GNC Pro Performance AMP Amplified 100% Whey Protein for $18.98 and a 1.7 pound bottle of GNC Total Lean Lean Shake for $22.98.

According to GNC EVP of store operations and development, Tom Dowd, “this partnership with Sam’s Club provides an excellent opportunity to introduce the GNC brands to consumers who may not be familiar with the quality and value of our products. Working with Sam’s Club, we will introduce the mass market customer to the GNC brand and our strongest formulas at an attractive price.”

Down also inferred GNC will be engaged with Sam’s in a product development roll.

“We are excited to work with Sam’s Club to help them develop better offerings for their members. We believe that GNC’s beneficial formulas and unique offerings will create excitement in the health and wellness area of these Sam’s Club locations,” Dowd said. “We believe the result will help Sam’s Club win over both the serious and educated supplement customer while increasing the visibility and reach of the GNC brand.”

The GNC brand is already quite visible with more than 7,200 locations, of which 5,800 are located in the U.S. and include 903 franchise stores and 2,003 store-within-a-store locations in Rite Aid.
