Sam's got 'square' milk, new packaging designed to cut waste, save money
BENTONVILLE, Ark. Sam's Club is now offering consumers milk in the form of a square shaped gallon, which is designed to cut back on packaging and shipping waste.
According to the company the square jugs do not require crates or racks for shipping and storage, as the new design enables the jugs to be stacked on top of one another. In addition, the flat top and wider spout do not come in contact with other equipment during filling reducing the risk of possible contamination, the company said.
Sam's added that the new jug saves customers 10 cents to 20 cents on their milk purchases.
Sam’s Club is offering case-less milk gallons in 189 clubs. The milk is available in most Sam’s Club locations in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Nevada, Ohio, South Carolina and Tennessee. There are a handful of milk producers across the U.S. currently set up to offer the new case-less gallons and as more adopt the design, Sam’s Club hopes to expand distribution.
