Sam’s Club continues its version of Affordable Care Act
While Obamacare remains a contentious issue, Sam’s Club has quietly administered free health tests to nearly one million people and plans to continue its ambitious screening program in 2015.
The first of the monthly screening events takes place Jan. 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sam’s Club 598 locations that contain a pharmacy. Ten screening events are planned for the remainder of the year and held on the second Saturday of each month.
“Offering free screenings for the fifth consecutive year is part of our commitment to improve the lives and well-being of people in the communities we serve,” said Jill Turner-Mitchael, senior vice president, Sam’s Club Health and Wellness. “It’s eye-opening to hear stories about the immediate impact of these screenings on people and how empowering it is for them to learn more about staying healthy. We’re determined to continue finding ways to make health care accessible.”
Each of the events has a theme such as heart health, diabetes, or men’s and women’s health and are open to non-members and members alike. The screenings are administered by licensed professionals and if administered in a more traditional health care setting would cost upwards of several hundred dollars.
