Sam’s Club and Target execs team up at RadioShack

12/20/2012

Former Sam’s Club SVP and GMM Huey Long and former Target EVP of stores Troy Risch have joined forces to right the ship at RadioShack.

Long will serve as EVP of strategy and consumer insights and be responsible for RadioShack’s marketing, business development and omnichannel while Risch will serve as EVP of operations and oversee the company’s network of 4,700 stores and 1,500 wireless phone centers in the United States and 1,100 dealer and other outlets worldwide. Both will report to Dorvin Lively who was named RadioShack’s interim CEO after James Gooch resigned from that position several months ago.

Long’s spent only two years at Sam’s Club and prior to that he spent two years at Amazon.com as director of global merchandising. He also served as president of Premier Resources International, COO of AB&T Sales and held various merchandising roles at Circuit City where he spent eight years.

Risch is a veteran of the operational ranks at Target where he spent 19 years before leaving the company last year. Risch began his career as a Target store manager and by 2006 had been elevated to the role of EVP of stores.

Long and Risch join RadioShack in the wake of a disappointing financial performance during the third quarter ended September 30, an ongoing search for a permanent CEO, unclear prospects for future growth and a stock price that has sunk to the low single digits. Sales during the third quarter declined slightly to $1 billion, but the company reported a loss of $47 million, or 47 cents a share, compared to a meager profit the prior year.

"I'm excited to announce the addition of this best-in-class talent to the RadioShack team," said interim CEO Lively. "Troy brings a depth of retail experience and success from the breadth of his previous operations roles, and Huey brings his vast expertise and knowledge in retail. These are two key roles that will influence the company's strategy, execution and future success. I look forward to working together to drive our business forward."
