Safeway slashes prices

8/12/2009

Washington, D.C. Safeway is expanding its price-cutting program by lowering prices on thousands of items at its stores in the Washington, D.C., region to appeal to cost-conscious shoppers, according to The Washington Post.

The company planned to announce the initiative Wednesday with banners and signs throughout stores, the report said.

The price cuts are mainly staple items sold in the center of each store, such as paper products, laundry supplies and coffee. The reductions run as high as 25%.

Safeway began phasing in the reductions about three weeks ago.
