Safeway to sell Canadian ops?

PLEASANTON, Calif. The Financial Times reports that Safeway may be considering the sale of its Canadian operations as well as its Chicago-based Dominick’s chain.

According to the publication, sources close to the company have named Sobeys and Alimentation Couche-Tard as potential bidders for its Canadian business.

Reportedly, Roundy’s would be interested in acquiring Dominick’s, having already approached the company within the past year.
