Safeway to Pay $2.7M Fine

Sacramento, Calif. Safeway Inc. has agreed to pay $2.7 million to Sacramento County and an additional five counties, according to the Sacramento Business Journal. Safeway has been accused of construction violations and pricing inaccuracies.

Safeway, which did not admit any wrongdoing, was investigated following complaints that it failed to get proper remodeling and hot food station permits required by city, county, state and federal laws. The investigation also looked at pricing and weighing accuracy throughout California.

District attorneys of Sacramento, Solano, Santa Cruz, Napa, Marin and Fresno cooperated in the case that was filed in Napa County Superior Court.

According to the report, Safeway has agreed to take steps to improve compliance with state and local construction requirements and with pricing and weighing accuracy.
