Safeway Opens New Format

Long Beach, Calif. Safeway has opened its first new small-format location, The Market, in Long Beach, Calif. The new model will be used as an option to renovate older stores and potentially expand into new locations, according to Supermarket News.

The Market made its debut in a former Von’s store that closed in January, the report said.

The logo for the new store is accompanied by the Von’s nameplate.

The company plans to open its second The Market location later this year.
