Safeway discontinues fuel rewards program
NEW YORK Safeway will no longer offer its PowerPump fuel rewards program, following a lawsuit by Excentus Corp.
Excentus filed suit against Safeway in June, accusing the chain of copyright infringement and stealing trade secrets in order to create the PowerPump program. Excentus operates the fuelperks! program for such supermarket chains as Publix and Winn-Dixie.
According to reports, customers must redeem their PowerPump rewards by 12:00 a.m. on Sept. 12.
Safeway's reward program was introduced last year and offered customers a 10-cent per gallon discount at its fuel stations for every $100 spent in the supermarket.
