Safeway appoints Pelz vp of investor relations

PLEASANTON, Calif. Safeway last week announced the appointment of Christiane Pelz to vp, investor relations. Pelz will succeed Julie Hong, who left the company, and will report to Melissa Plaisance, senior vp of finance and investor relations.

Prior to joining Safeway, Pelz served as a vp for Lippert/Heilshorn & Associates, Inc., an investor relations agency.

Pelz began her career as an analyst at Oracle Corp. and later worked as a debt and equity portfolio analyst for Berkeley International Capital Corp. After earning an MBA in finance and an MA in international studies, she joined Goldman, Sachs & Co. in Frankfurt, Germany, as an investment banking associate. After returning to the United States, she joined a start-up company as director of business development and strategic planning. She also worked as a vp in the Citigroup Private Bank.
