Roundy’s to Open in Chicago
Milwaukee Roundy’s Supermarkets announced Tuesday that it plans to open 15 to 25 grocery stores in the Chicago area during the next several years. The stores will be a part of an expansion plan that includes two new locations opening in its home base of Milwaukee.
According to Robert Mariano, chairman and CEO of Roundy’s, "Economically, [Chicago] is a vibrant, growing city. We are focused on the city—all markets and all neighborhoods."
Mariano added that Roundy's leaders have toured Chicago several times with city planners to scout sites. The company previously planned two store openings in Chicago—one to open at Monroe and Halsted streets later this year or in early 2009 and the other to open at 1515 N. Halsted.
Roundy's is a full-service supermarket, with most stores a minimum of 50,000 sq. ft.
