Los Angeles -- Ron Johnson is sweet on teen fave Nasty Gal. The online edgy- fashion retailer recently closed $16 million in funding to support its growth. The round was led by former Apple retail chief and Penney CEO Ron Johnson, who also joined the company’s board.
“Nasty Gal has something incredibly unique in its blend of community, fashion, and lifestyle,” said Johnson, currently CEO of Enjoy, an e-commerce startup that has not yet launched. “The company empowers women through how they dress and how they can live their life. I look forward to being a part of the company’s incredible future.”
Nasty Gal opened its first physical location in November 2014, in Los Angeles. A second store will open this spring, in the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica.
“Over the past 18 months Ron has become a valued mentor and friend. I can’t imagine anyone more qualified to support our growth in this next phase,” said Sophia Amoruso, founder and executive chairman. “This move will allow him to get significantly involved with Nasty Gal to help us succeed in our next phase of growth.”
Founded in 2006 by Amoruso as an eBay store specializing in vintage clothing, Nasty Gal currently has a global presence in 180 countries.
