Ron Johnson launches retail site, ‘Enjoy,’ combining sales, set-up service

5/4/2015
Menlo Park, Calif. -- Former J.C. Penney CEO and Apple Store guru Ron Johnson on Wednesday launched a high-end, high-tech gadget shopping site that comes with a personal touch. Called Enjoy, and initially available only in the San Francisco Bay area and, on May 13 in New York City, the new service bills itself as a “personal service platform.” It allows shoppers to buy select consumer electronics online and then, for no charge, sends an expert to install and set up the product at the consumer’s home.

“Enjoy was founded on the simple premise that people need help and we believe that a human connection is the best way to help them,” stated Johnson in a release. “Enjoy Experts will hand deliver technology products to customers at a place and time of their choosing, and spend an hour helping them get up and running. The Enjoy Visit is offered free with every purchase made on GoEnjoy.com.

Customers can also hire an expert from Enjoy to come and set up previously purchased products, or products they already own, for a fee of $99. (Some industry analysts have commented that the service is somewhat reminiscent of Best Buy’s Geek Squad. However, the Best Buy tech support does not come free.)

Out of the gate at least, Enjoy is offering only a few dozen items, with none priced below $200, from such brands as AT&T, Boosted, DJI, GoPro, HP, Lenovo, and Sonos.

AT&T will be the first company to integrate Enjoy into its online shopping experience and offer the Enjoy service to their customers directly from ATT.com. Beginning on May 19, customers in the Bay Area and New York City will be able to select Enjoy as a free service included with the purchase of select eligible new smartphones, or smartphone and tablet bundle at ATT.com. After checking out, Enjoy will contact the customer to schedule their delivery and visit with a company expert at a time and place of the customer’s choosing.

According to reports, Enjoy has about 80 “experts” on hand who will be delivering the devices and setting them up. To see Johnson talk about his venture, click here.
