Rite Aid's August same-store sales drop

9/2/2010

Camp Hill, Pa. Rite Aid Corp. said Thursday its same-store sales fell 1% in August in line with analysts' forecast, as the weak economy and high unemployment continue to hurt its results.

Pharmacy revenue slid 1% as the company reported a 1.2% drop in the number of prescriptions filled. Sales of front-end items dipped 0.9% in the five weeks ended Aug. 28.

August is the end of Rite Aid's fiscal second quarter. The company said its total sales for the quarter fell 2.5% to $6.14 billion from $6.3 billion, coming in below analysts' average forecast of $6.23 billion.
