Rio Brands acquires Wearever Chair
PHILADELPHIA Rio Brands has acquired the Wearever Chair assets and brand name and from WelCom products. WelCom will remain in business operating under that name, supplying their new Magna Cart to the trade. WelCom will pay their open payables, and will collect their open receivables. All open unshipped orders will be transferred to Rio Brands effective August 3. The design and specifications of the WelCom chairs will remain unchanged. A significant portion of the WelCom manufacturing will be absorbed into Rio’s China production facilities. All sales, administrative and management functions will be absorbed into the current Rio Brands operations.
Patented in 1998, Wearever chairs were the first backpack chairs on the market. Originally developed as a single size chair with a steel frame, Wearever chairs today come in many shapes and sizes, including steel and aluminum frames, adult and kid’s size chairs, and lounge chairs with unique footrests which also function as tables.
“This is a great move for our company, and a step forward for the industry," said Warren Cohen, president of Rio Brands. “The combination of the Wearever Chair name and Rio Brands operating muscle will enable us to grow the backpack chair business significantly over the next few years. Particularly, the revolutionary design of the Wearever Footrest Lounger can be expanded upon – it’s a great product."
