Retailers slammed with fines for overcharging in N.C.

Charlotte, N.C. A Walgreens store in Charlotte, N.C., has been fined $7,905 for excessive price-scanner errors by state regulators, according to the Charlotte Business Journal.

That was the largest assessment among a total of eight stores from various retailers found to be overcharging customers during unannounced inspections by the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

The Walgreens store was found in violation in four inspections with error rates ranging between 3.67% and 6%. The retailer has paid the fines, the report said.

Other stores cited in the area include Lowes Foods, two CVS locations and a Dollar General.
