Retailers see holiday sales rebound from 2008

New York City The New York Times reported Friday that the majority of U.S. retailers managed to avoid deep discounting over the holidays, prompting sales gains in December.

The industry collectively turned in a 2.9% year-over-year comp-store sales increase, according to Thomson Reuters. Some 75% of retailers beat analysts’ estimates.
