Cars that drive themselves are yesterday’s news. The next big thing may be shopping carts that essentially do the same.
While retailers have been deploying robots in wide variety of back- and front-end roles, but Walmart is reportedly looking into a fresh new take on robotic retailing. According to
Bloomberg, Walmart is working with New Jersey-based technology company Five Elements Robotics to develop a prototype of a robotic shopping cart that would propel itself and also assist customers in finding products on shelves.
The report is based on a comment a Five Elements executive made during a session at Bloomberg Technology Conference 2016 about working on such a project with the “world’s largest retailer.”
Walmart declined to comment.
