Report: Wal-Mart pilots digital movie service
Bentonville, Ark. –- Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is reportedly piloting a service called InstaWatch that lets customers obtain digital access to movies they buy in stores or on the Wal-Mart site.
According to Reuters, Wal-Mart is partnering with its movie streaming subsidiary Vudu and film studios including DreamWorks Home Entertainment, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Warner Home Video and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment to offer digital access to 800 movies available in stores and 1,100 movies available online.
Consumers will be able to use InstaWatch through the Wal-Mart app to watch digital versions of movies they purchase on Vudu. Wal-Mart acquired Vudu in 2010.
