Report: U.S. Court Backs Best Buy, Others, in Gift-Card Suit
Washington, D.C. A court that specializes in patent appeals ruled for Best Buy and a range of other companies on Monday involved in a legal fight over gift cards, according to a Reuters report.
RealSource, Inc. had accused Best Buy, Circuit City, Starbucks, Williams-Sonoma and its Pottery Barn unit, Costco, Lowe's and Seattle's Best Coffee of infringing on a patent for its method of putting value on gift cards, the report said.
The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas had granted a summary judgment of non-infringement.
The report said that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, which handles all patent appeals, agreed.
