Twitter, which has been piloting an embedded buy button in tweets since September 2014, is reportedly pulling the plug on the idea.
According to
BuzzFeed, Twitter has disbanded its 25-member commerce team that was responsible for development of the buy button and product pages. Some of those employees have left, and the others have been reallocated to the customer service and dynamic product ad teams. Recent data from Forrester and GlobalWebIndex indicates low consumer usage rates for social buy buttons.
