Report - Square still working with Starbucks
San Francisco – Although the mobile payment partnership that Starbucks and Square launched in 2012 will soon be ending, Square is reportedly still actively working with Starbucks. According to the San Francisco Business Journal, Square is publicly informing its users that Starbucks is using Square technology to process payments at 7,000 stores.
Last week, Square emailed users of its Square Wallet app to let them know Starbucks would no longer accept Square Wallet payments, causing erroneous reports that Starbucks and Square would end their partnership. Starbucks invested $25 million in Square in 2012 and Starbucks CEO joined the Square board, although he resigned from it in October 2013.
Starbucks has since launched its own successful mobile payment app and thus will not accept Square Wallet or the newer Square Order app, which is going to replace Square Wallet as that app is phased out.
