Report: Self-service checkout technology on the rise

9/1/2009

London Self-service checkout technology is one of the few “winners” in the economic crisis, according to Planet Retail. Its latest report, “Self-service checkouts: How the next generation of self-service changes retailing,” predicts the number of stores around the world with some kind of self-service checkout technology will triple by the end of 2013 at the latest.

The report notes that key players in global retailing, including Ikea and Carrefour, have begun rolling out the latest generation of self-service check outs at a faster pace. And in Europe, some retailers have started to roll out the latest generation of self-service technology across their entire store networks.
