Report: RadioShack cuts back Thanksgiving hours
Fort Worth, Texas –- RadioShack Corp. is reportedly placing a midday break into its previously planned all-day store hours for Thanksgiving. According to Bloomberg, an internal company memo shows that RadioShack, which had previously planned to keep stores open from 8 a.m. to midnight on Thanksgiving, will now close stores between noon and 5p.m. that day.
Employees had complained about the all-day Thanksgiving hours and short notice given to them, with some posting complaints on internal message boards and some managers even reporting employee resignations over the issue. Although RadioShack CEO Joe Magnacca said in the memo that “non-competitive store hours” led to disappointing sales for the chain during Thanksgiving weekend 2013, he stated that the company worked to resolve employee concerns about working on the holiday.
“We understand the long operating hours posed potential issues with personal scheduling,” Magnacca said. “Therefore, we have created an adjusted schedule that will eliminate that concern and still capture the opportunity in the marketplace.”
RadioShack declined comment.
