Report: Neiman Marcus launches unlikely partnership—and product prices

3/2/2018
A luxury department store retailer’s new exclusive partnership could attract some ‘Young Money.’

In its effort to build a more youthful audience, Neiman Marcus is featuring a fashion line from rapper Lil Wayne at its store in Beverly Hills, California, according to The Dallas News.

The menswear brand, Young Money Merch, features athletic wear, including hoodies, jackets, baseball caps, T-shirts and track pants. Price points range from $55 and top out at $150, and merchandise is available online and in the Los Angeles-based store.

The move is a way for the luxury department store chain to connect with a younger audience. Other efforts to reach this customer base include the launch of its Cusp casual women's apparel departments; a broad selection of fashion sneakers for men and, more recently, the addition of independent brands in cosmetics, according to The Dallas News

Despite these investments, Neiman Marcus continues to operate burdened with roughly $4.4 billion in long-term net debt, the result of two leveraged buyouts. The luxury retailer had explored the idea of being acquired by Hudson’s Bay Company, which also has a big debt load, but the deal never came together.
